Here's to funny valentines.
Here's to valuing genuine, daily love over annual, manufactured sap.
Here's to sap, when it's unexpected.
Here's to everyone who celebrated 'Single Awareness Day' in style.
Here's to everyone who got engaged, and here's to everyone who didn't.
Here's to love, however and wherever it finds you.
And finally, here's what my own Valentine's Day was like:
Monday, February 13:
10:30 pm: I try to go to bed early, because I have to be up at 5:30am for work the next day.
11:00 pm: Still not asleep.
11:37 pm: I whine to D about how miserable I'll be in the morning, how I'll be tired and rushed and I won't even have time to make coffee, and how, in general, I Don't Wanna.
Sometime after midnight: I manage to fall asleep.
Tuesday February, 14:
3:17am - Wake up in a panic thinking I've overslept. Dammit.
5:30am - Alarm goes off and I have to get up for real. M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E.
6:05am - About ready to leave. Tired, hurried, cranky.
6:07am - I go downstairs... and find a fresh-brewed pot of coffee that D had somehow managed to sneakily prepare. That's love.
6:10 am - 8:00 pm: You read it right. Almost a 14 hour workday, between travel to the Coast, shoot on location, travel back up.
8:00pm - I get home to find some flowers, a bottle of salsa (which is a metaphorical gift... someday, we're gonna take salsa lessons, for real!), and the weirdest Valentine's Day card I've ever seen.
You can experience the card (and the salsa) in the video below. Enjoy it, with love - and turn up the volume. It's totally safe for work and will likely bring a giggle.
Sending you lots of (maternal-eternal) love.
